Tips on Forming EMS Student Study Groups

Studying in groups has its own advantages. One is that the interaction between fellow students makes studying less boring and more interesting. For an EMS student study group to succeed, they should follow these tips.

Group or Crowd?

Choose a size for your group that is just right (about 3-5 will do). More than that is a crowd and will be hard to coordinate and less than that is not enough to provide the benefits and input that one should get from studying in a group.

Choose who gets to join

It is important that the members of your group have the ability to share insights and contribute to the group. Select those who come to class regularly, actively participate in discussions and does their homework. Having the people in your social circle to be the sole members of your study group will have the tendency to take your discussions off topic.

Establish a study calendar amenable to all

Now that you have your group, the next thing to do is set a date and time for your study sessions. All members should discuss this so everyone will be available on that day. Setting a schedule and making all members committed to that will have better chances for them to follow through.

Stick to a study plan

Select an EMS topic from your course content that you all need work on. Set up a study plan and make sure that the group is on track with that topic. Take notes on things that you're all having difficulty with, the whole group should all make efforts to shed light on these questions  and bring it up on the next study session.

Choose a leader

The whole group should all agree to appoint a leader. By saying leader, it doesn't mean that that person will do all the work. The leader will serve as the neutral party in case of conflict and would keep the group on track with their study plan.

Keep Trying

In the event that the group formed was unsuccessful, you shouldn't give up. Reflect on what went wrong with the group and come up with solutions and ways to avoid making previous mistakes. Keep in mind that the main purpose of forming a study group is to learn, understand and to help each other through the course.
